Charitable Giving

  • Gifts of Cash: simple and most common. Please check with a tax professional on deductibility limits.

  • Gifts of Appreciated Securities: taxpayers may be allowed a charitable deduction and avoid paying capital gains taxes. This is a great and easy way to give to a charity. Please talk with your tax advisor about the best way for you to give to a charity.  

  • Qualified Charitable Distribution: for taxpayers 70 1/2 or older a QCD allows you to gift directly from your IRA up to $100,000 per year to qualifying charities. If you have an IRA this may be the best way to give. Please talk with your tax advisor about the many benefits of this giving method.  

  • Charitable Bequests at Death: by naming a charity as a partial beneficiary of your IRA or life insurance or 401(k) your estate can avoid income taxes as these gifts pass to the charity income tax free. Consider the impact of even a small percent gift an estate could have for a charity. Please talk with your tax advisor about implementing this gift.
