We Love ROC!

Dear Friends,

You're in our thoughts and we hope each of you is well and safe. Although we are not able to bring you in person concerts for a while, we wish to keep in touch so you know that we are thinking of you and looking forward to seeing you as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we're happy to share some exciting developments and plans that are happening behind the scenes, or, in our usual musical vocabulary, “backstage.”

As you know from previous concert programs, SCMR has a special collaborative arrangement with the Eastman School of Music and the Hanson Institute for American Music, in which the Hanson Institute underwrites our Composition Competition for high school and collegiate composers. The young composer of the winning composition receives a cash award and a performance on a SCMR concert. The composition is performed by members of the Eastman-Hanson Chamber Players (the instrumentation changes with each year’s winning composition), who work directly with the composer rehearsing the work. Another successful partnership with Eastman is hosting Interns through their Arts Leadership Program.

A new relationship is being formed with Nazareth College with SCMR becoming an Ensemble-in-Residence there. The collaboration is best explained by Artistic Director, Erik Behr as:

"We are so pleased to be finalizing a partnership with the School of Music at Nazareth College, Mario Martinez, Director, as this will provide SCMR the use of their new outstanding Glazer Music Performance Center as a concert venue, as well as enhancing our outreach and education activities with the students and faculty at this burgeoning music school. We will also be host to an intern from Nazareth"

Once fall plans are finalized at Nazareth, we will be able to provide you with more information concerning concert dates and repertoire.

Thank you, as always, for being such faithful supporters of SCMR!

Sincerely,
Don Hunsberger, Chair and Linda Gillim, President
