The Society for
Chamber Music in Rochester began in 1977 with co-founders
Richard Luby and John Bouyoucos. Luby was a violinist with the
Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and loved to play chamber
music. He looked at all the young talent with the RPO and the
Eastman School of Music and wanted to bring these two groups
closer together. He invited them to play chamber music for the
love of music and the pleasure of performing together in an
intimate setting.

At one of the early performances John
Bouyoucos, a specialist in sound who loved chamber music,
noticed that the audience was meager. Bouyoucos, the owner of
Hydroacoustics, collaborated with Luby to build an audience for
chamber music in Rochester and the Society was born. |
